DIA DE LOS MUERTOS Debut CD To Feature Members Of STATIC-X, BODY COUNT
October 19, 2005DIA DE LOS MUERTOS, the new Los Angeles-based band featuring BODY COUNT bassist Vincent Price, and guitarist Andres Jaramillo and drummer Alfonso Pinzon from the Colombian metal act AGONY, will release their debut album, "Day of the Dead", on November 2.
Formed in late 2004, DIA DE LOS MUERTOS began as a vehicle for Jaramillo and Pinzon while they were writing songs for the re-release of the AGONY catalog in the U.S. "We started writing these songs as bonus tracks for AGONY, but then we realized that they sounded different," commented Alfonso. "That was the time when we needed a third piece to complement our music and give us a new perspective, and it is then when Vince came into the picture." Vincent Price, current bass player for BODY COUNT, not only brought in a thunderous bass sound, but worked actively on the production of the album.
The band started rehearsing, and after a couple of months jumped right into the studio. But there was still a missing element: vocals.
Even though they considered recording vocals themselves (which they did for the album's title track, "Day of the Dead"),the songs combined elements from different metal genres and were unique by themselves, opening new possibilities for making them diverse. Alfonso commented: "We didn't want to wait to look for a singer, we were hungry for finished songs and decided one day to call our friends in music, people who had shared the stage with us in the past and that enjoy making music the way we do. It was something like: 'Hey, we've got these songs, do you want to do some vocals here? [It was] just that simple."
"Each vocalist was able to write and sing lyrics in his/her language of preference", said Andres. "They all did an amazing job".
"I could tell from the first riff that this was going to be something killer!" commented Adrian Villanueva, who was in charge of recording. "The determination talent and focus these guys had was obvious from the start and with a different singer to give every song on the CD a different feel, I was sure it was going to be something that was going to cause a big buzz in the metal scene."
Those friends include Maldito X (a.k.a. Tony Campos) from the death metal/grindcore band ASESINO (as well as being the bassist for STATIC-X),Andres Gimenez from the Argentinean metal icon A.N.I.M.A.L., Alex Okendo from the Colombian death metal legend MASACRE and Loana dP Valencia from the L.A. thrash metal band DREAMS OF DAMNATION. Vocals were recorded in both English and Spanish.
Mixed by multi-talented guitarist/producer Roy Z (JUDAS PRIEST, BRUCE DICKINSON, HELLOWEEN),"Day of the Dead" delivers 20 minutes of pure metal aggression. The complete track listing for the effort is as follows:
01. We Rise/We Kill
02. Day of the Dead
03. Sacrificio
04. Falso Poder
05. Sangre por Guerra
The band are currently working on an international tour schedule. Dates will be announced soon.
